I seem to encountered a problem that a number of others have, in that the rear seat belt isn't long enough to fit around my damned baby car seat! I've seen a number of suggestions for buying a seat belt extended, but it doesn't look like that would help as it's extending the wrong part of the seat belt :( Does anyone know whether you can fit a longer seat belt to a '98 V70 - perhaps one from a newer model? Thanks in advance.
I recently discovered this exact same issue on my 940. I've ordered an adjustable seat belt extender as a quick fix. The thing is, it is only stage one (backward facing) child seats that will pose a problem (I hope) as the forward facing stage 2 ones have the seat belt through the back. If my understanding of the law is correct, a baby only goes in the stage 1 seat for until they are six months old. That being the case, I didn't think it worthwhile to start replacing the whole seat belt. My seat belt extender arrived today (not tried it yet as I'm at work still). Of course it still remains to be seen if it secures the child seat properly or not. If it doesn't its back to the drawing board for me. I will post back when I've tried it and let you know.

Volvo used to do complete longer seatbelts as an accessory. Unfortunately they were discontinued with the advent of pretensioner belts. Some places do do a plug in extension which may help. i couldn't vouch for their safety though....
Ok, as promised here is my update about the seat belt extender and child seat carry on. In the front passenger, there was no way the seat belt was going to fit, no matter what I tried. The seat belt extender was completely useless because the problem was not that the buckle wouldn't reach, it was that the belt simply wouldn't go round the seat, plain and simple. In the back I had much more success. The seat belt was still a tight fit, but it did go round the child seat with the child seat in the correct position and angle. The clip wouldn't reach the buckle though, which is where the extender came into play. Fitting the adjustable extender (not Volvo's one) made everything fit nice and snug and securely. Of course what this means now is that I get to feel like a limo driver, with my wife and son in the back, with the front seat empty. The seat belt adjuster I bought came from here:

it's the rear facing stage one seats that are the problem especially ones with a base. We have a Mammas and Papas one with a base that is permanently on the seat - you clunk the child seat ontop of it - the problem is that the seat has a huge back to it round which you are meant to fit the shoulder strap of the belt. We had no problems with the Mondeo but I have noticed issues with my old 240 and indeed my 940 and 850 as the rear belts in Volvos just don't seem to be made very long. We have another baby expected in July so the seat will be pressed into service once again and I'll have to buy an extension. I don't think this is a problem with the Maxi Cosi stage one rear facer as it is a smaller unit. Once the kids are in stage 2 seats there doesn't seem to be much of an issue
